Watch: advanced HPB procedures

The Gastroenterology and Hepatology department at Hamza Medicare is a specialised unit dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and management of disorders affecting the digestive system, liver and related organs. The department provides comprehensive care for patients with conditions such as gastrointestinal infections, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease and pancreatic disorders.

One of the essential procedures performed within the department is endoscopy, a minimally invasive technique used to visualise and examine the gastrointestinal tract. Endoscopy enables physicians to detect abnormalities, obtain biopsies and perform therapeutic interventions such as removing polyps or placing stents. With state-of-the-art equipment and a highly skilled team, the department ensures accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans.

We provide a patient-centred and comprehensive advanced endoscopy service for a wide array of disorders of the pancreas and biliary tree, along with other gastrointestinal conditions. The unit undertakes multiple pancreatobiliary endoscopies, primarily endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), mainly under fluoroscopic guidance, with a proportion of cases performed with anaesthetic support. As the regional tertiary referral centre for HPB procedures, we support referring hospitals across the region, and an inpatient “treat and transfer” service is provided for patients admitted in other hospitals.

Colonoscopy

کالونوسکوپی

ایک طبی ٹیسٹ ہے جس کے ذریعے بڑی آنت کا معائنہ کیا جاتا ہے

A colonoscopy is a common medical procedure used to examine the health of the large intestine and rectum. During the exam, a doctor inserts a thin, flexible tube called a colonoscope, equipped with a light and camera, to look for abnormalities like inflammation, bleeding or polyps. It is considered the gold standard for colon cancer prevention because small growths can be removed before they have a chance to become cancerous.

The “bowel prep” required to clear the colon the day before is often the most inconvenient part; the procedure itself is typically painless and performed under sedation.

Oesophago-gastro-duodenoscopy (OGD)

An oesophago-gastro-duodenoscopy (OGD), or upper endoscopy, is a diagnostic procedure using a flexible, camera-tipped tube to view the lining of the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum. Performed under sedation, it detects inflammation, ulcers or tumours and allows for biopsies or treatments such as dilating narrow areas. It usually takes 5 to 10 minutes.
